Chemical Free Home - Mild polisher Cleaning With Sandpaper
It sounds harsh and destructive but cleaning some things around the home with a mild grinder sandpaper is a good way to bring new life to old or stained objects. The harshness of the clean is dinky only by the coarseness of the sandpaper. Any method of cleaning that does not use chemicals is always worth a try. One word of caution - The grinder on sandpaper is held on with varied types of glue. Avoid using on surfaces that will be used for cooking and ensure all surfaces are fully washed that will be in caress with food.
I use wet and dry sandpaper also referred to as Emery Paper or Emery Cloth which is ordinarily used in the automotive industry. It is ideal for cleaning many metal items around the home. The grit of the paper should be 400+ which will cause less damage to the exterior of the items being cleaned. It is prominent to remember that Emery Paper can be used wet, Emery Cloth can not be used wet and is not recommended for mild grinder cleaning.
Sandpaper
In The Kitchen
Stainless steel cookware - especially baking dishes and frying pans receive brown staining over time which is almost impossible to clean without harsh and toxic cleaners. A light rub with wet 400 grit sandpaper will take off the stains and bring the cookware back to its natural state. Only use this method on the exterior (non cooking side) of cookware. There may be some light scratches in the exterior from the sandpaper but these will generally be less unsightly than the stains the sandpaper removed.
Stainless steel kitchen sinks and drainers can also be restored to new life with a mild clean using 400 wet sandpaper. Be sure to rub the paper in a particular direction to avoid scratches.
Be sure the exterior you are cleaning is stainless steel. I would not propose this on any other type of material in the kitchen.
Aluminium Window Frames
Unpainted (silver) aluminium windows can be given new life by gently rubbing any corrosion and stains off with sandpaper. Again, I would only use it wet and avoid caress with any painted or stained timber sills. The inside tracks can also be cleaned this way. always wipe the exterior with a wet cloth after cleaning to take off any residue.
Garden and Shed Tools
Once or twice a year garden tools such as spades, shovels, hoes, rakes and similar tools (including hand tools) can be cleaned with sandpaper before putting away for out of season storage. After cleaning it is recommended to rub a coating of oil over the exterior of the metal to protect it from rust. Alternatives contain spraying with a lubricant or similar water repelling and sealing compound. Painting is not recommended as rust can construct under the coating of the paint if it is not fully dry.
Generally, cleaning things around the home with sandpaper can help rejuvenate old and worn out (unpainted) stainless steel, aluminium and metal. When cleaning indoor items always test a small section or alternatively test on an older item made from a similar material before doing the real thing.
